Bibigo - Cooked Sticky White Rice - Review

#iloverice

I was in Costco this week and spotted a sticky rice label sticking out.

Well, I like rice in general and I always try rice dishes, steamed rice wherever I go. It is simply an art to cooking rice to absolute perfection. Interestingly, perfection is elusive and in this case, the perfectly cooked rice is relative by region, cooking style and an individuals preference. I will get into different types of cooked rice in a different story sometime soon.

So today let's stick to sticky rice... :-)

A cooked rice product from South Korean company label " Bibigo" can be your quick go-to on day you are in the run but still craving for some cooked rice.

I had some pcooked sides at home which I had prepared and refrigerated and wanted to try the rice with the sides. So I managed to convinced my partner with that smiling face....I want to try this once....pleaseeeee.

So coming back to rice.

1. Peel open the top of the white plastic bowl which contains the cooked rice.

2. The portion size (Net Wt- 7.4ox(210g) is pretty small by my standard. I mean if you want to eat to it with multiple sides, you would need another bowl or if you are hungry.   It worked well for me on the day I was running between meetings.

Tip: Works just fine if you are having it with one small side dish

2.  I liked the stickiness, not overly boiled. just about right.

3. Would have been a little better if the rice was rinsed one more time before cooking it. It would give a much cleaner  impression. Probably, it could be me, because I rinse my rice pretty well before cooking, given the fact it goes through so many processes before it is finally available for consumption.  Some agree or disagree related to losing food value.
4. It would go well with any asian style sides, vegetarian or non-vegetarian

5.  As per heating instructions on the box, you can either microwave it for 1 min 30 sec or use stove-top to heat it ( throw the unopened bowl into hot water for 10 mins). Then serve it hot.
We don't have a microwave, so we heated the bowl differently .

Tip : Our way, which you can try as well. Put a steamer( a steel or bamboo) with boiling water below. Remove the peel cover and place bowls/ or you can transfer the rice into another bowl(could glass/ceramic/steel) on the perforated steamer. If you have any rice grain that has dried or shrunk in size, the steam will fluff it up. So, cover the lid for 8-10 mins. After 10 mins, take the bowl out and serve.
So you get that fresh steamed rice kind of feeling..... I love it.

And again, I am not a big fan of plastic or food being cooked in plastic. I know I know, you can say that are all food grade and microwaveable. But it is still plastic. I don't mind taking that extra 1 min to transfer the content into a glass ware. In fact, you can do the same when using a microwave too...

Price-point : Since, I picked up from Costco, the pack size with 8 bowls in marked at $4.99.

My verdict is that it is good when you don't have the time or arrangement to cook rice on particular day.  So definitely try it. You can try my tips or suggest new ones that I can try.

But there is nothing more wonderful than a freshly cooked rice....hmmmm....I am going to have rice for dinner today.

Don't worry about rice making you fat....Enjoy what you eat... I will share my Rice love story sometime soon....:-)

I have used some products from "Bibigo" in the past, which I will share on my blog soon.  Please note these are my personal thoughts.
